A Little about some of our gamers.....

Tim Goodlett
Tim is one of the four founding members of SMP in 2003. He is also an accomplished rules writer. He has written something like 8 or 10 different systems that have seen print. His most notable set of rules, Soldat, is currently no longer in print. However, SMP has plans to update the rules, and make them available for sale sometime in 2008, along with several other sets of rules that we have been collectively working on for the past 3 years.

Well, I suppose I am one of the founding members, from back in 2003. I have been playing historical miniatures since about 1983. I began the club for completely selfish reasons; I wanted to insure that I had someone to game with on the 355 days a year when there was no HMGS convention taking place! Since then I have made a lot of good friends, and enjoy SMP more than anything else I do these days. We began the club in a comic book store, but realizing that the noise levels were a little more than we could deal with, because of yu-gi-oh tournaments, we built a game room in my house, and moved shop. We have grown a lot since those days, and have seen a lot of friends come and go, but we persist.

James and Matthew Dziedzic
James and Matthew joined up with the club in 2007. I believe he stumbled across us on the Internet. James is quite the painter, having shown us some of his 15mm ACW figures; I wish I had that kind of patience! James seems to be open to pretty much any period, as does Matthew, his son, but Matthews’s obvious favorite is WWII. He is a bright kid, and can pick out all the different models of German Panzers, and can give you information about each. They are both great gamers as well, they fit right in with us; lets just have some fun.

Ashley Johnson
Ashley was one of the four founding members of SMP in 2003. He knew Rich from work from year’s prior, and had just returned from a couple of years in Hawaii, and jumped right in with both feet to get our little club off the ground. While Ashley tends to prefer the competitive gaming more then others, he has been integral in many of our convention participation games. He has had a tendency to run Napoleonics and French & Indian war games at recent shows, and is begging to branch out into WWII.

Patrick Berkebile
Patrick came upon us via Ashley in 2005. They were playing Warhammer Fantasy together, and they got to talking one day to come to find out that Patrick also had WAB figures. A few games later, they drug me into the WAB mix, and we seemed to hit things off well. Patrick has been bitten by the historical bug ever since. While he still plays Fantasy, he has increased the number of his WAB armies to about 6, he is helping to work on a new expansion to the system, and has branched into WWII painting Flames of War as well as 20mm Bulge period figures, and early France 40.

Evil & Mini

Tony and Jon Exline
Tony and Jon joined SMP in 2007. Jon has little experience in Wargaming, but plenty of passion. Tony was a micro armor gamer years back, but hadn’t really played since starting a family, and running short of time. Recently, he had a flooding problem in his basement, and his loving wife threw away half of his figures, and most of his terrain. While going through what was left, his son seemed interested in it, so he got on the internet, and found us. Since joining, they have been very energetic about all the periods we have put on the table, and even showed up on one of our trips up North to the AOCM club. Tony and Chris are planning to get together to begin running micro armor games for us, another new scale for the club, and much anticipated.

(Note from Tony: I was obviously furious when my wife threw away some of my boxes of terrain & minis. But after a couple of months of gaming with SMP, I actually thanked her for reigniting my love for gaming & getting my son Jon into it as well!)

Rich Low Photo

Rich Low
Rich is one of the four founding members of SMP in 2003. I met Rich through a mutual acquaintance, a non-gamer. Strange how different factors come together in ones life, small world. The desire that Rich and I had to begin gaming in the area was the catalyst to start the group. We began with only 4 members, and quickly grew. We have had many people come and go in our club since it began, probably over 30 guys, and all because the two of us wanted to roll dice at one another.

Chris

Chris Collins
Chris joined the club after running into us at one of the HMGS conventions in 2006. I can’t remember if he was playing in one of our games, or just chatting us up. Either way, he has become a strong member of the group, running his first convention game at Cold Wars 2007 under the SMP banner. Chris has a set of Napoleonics rules that he and an old gaming buddy from out West had created. It is a conversion from Fire and Fury, and they call it Fury of Nations. We seem to have kick started the GM mode within him at CW07; he will be running 3 games at Historicon 2007! Chris has become our go to GM for 15mm Napoleonics and ACW.

Brian Kuykendall
Brian is a long time friend of mine, but a new gamer, joining the club in 2006. We have known each other since the 4th grade! Brian was over at the house one day when I was having a game, and we managed to talk him into playing, it was 28mm ACW. He has been playing with us since. In fact, he was bitten so hard, that he came to his first ever convention, TriaDCon 2007, and ran his first ever game at Cold Wars 2007. The game was a NASCAR game, Darlington SC. We are talking now about building a new track for next years show.

More to come.....
